The red pigment in Tomatoes is Lycopene. This acts as a strong antioxidant, i.e., it can help neutralize free radicals before the damage is done. According to a research study at Harvard, having 10 servings of half a cup in a week can cut the risk of developing prostrate cancer by as much as 45%.
Lycopene ( antioxidant ) in tomatoes has been found to help build protection against breast, and lung cancers.
Tomatoes are healthy source of antioxidants.
We have started this humble effort to bring to you in the form of a blog so that we can have other contributors invited and let you, the most important part of this site, let us know how we are doing in that effort.
To stay focused and simple, we will go through some terms which can be confusing:
Free radicals: The unstable particles which get created in the oxdation reactions in our body are called free radicals. These are caused partly due to pollutants, smoke, excessive exercise and the food that does not have antioxidants.
Antioxidants: There are compounds having chemical bondings such that they counteract the damage caused by free radicals in the body. They are, therefore, some help against ailments. Some foods are known to have better antioxidants than others.
We will, gradually, discuss the whole process and how best to cope with Aging.
